Mid-South Winter Series Hare Scramble: Bear Hollow

Sunday morning I busted out of bed to find approximately 2" of snow covering the ground and to my truck. Now snow normally fills my head with images of nipple deep pow and stoke through the roof but this snow was not so well received. You see loading a 200# dirtbike into a truck with the sketchiest ramp made is a lesson in disaster! After numerous attempts at running the bike onto the ramp of death and having the ramp go shooting off the various sides of the tailgate resulting in me running full blast into said tailgate. Go ahead and image the scene if you will....I added some ducttape to the ramp for traction and finally got-er-dun.

What was the reason for the early morning activity? The Mid-South Winter Series Hare Scramble at Bear Creek in Monterey, TN. Bear Hollow was the first moto race I have ever done in addition to it also being the first race for both Doug and Devin. The first race back in May of 08' was a mind blowing event but not to be out done this race proved to me my undoing and quite a spectacle to witness. We arrived at the event with mixed thoughts on if the race was even going to go off but that all dissolved upon arriving at the gate and seeing two dozen motor homes lining the pit road. We drove in and found a spot to pit and began to prep for the event. I walked away from the truck to commemorate the event in pictures since I had a feeling that the whole venue would change through out the day.

The race began in typical Hare-Scramble fashion which consists of a furious start but the big difference was the enormous traffic jam that awaited racers in the first woods section. You almost had to wait your turn to go through the section which ultimately becomes a free for all due to the adrenaline from the start. I made it 1.1 miles in to the race and called it! Doug and Devin continued on into oblivion unaware of my departure from the race.

Doug finished up 3rd out of 13 in the 200 class and Devin finish ninth out of 15 in the 4-stroke vet class, and a good job to both for finishing.

Now a word about ATV racing. There is nothing more hilarious, loud and destructive than racing an ATV. Those things are like the monster truck rally of outdoor motorsports! Please review the enclosed videos for your enjoyment and please watch in order.
